471 Pakistan Parents Arrested for Not Vaccinating Children Against Polio

They made their stand and were arrested. 471 Pakistan parent refused to allow their children to vaccinated against polio and they are now behind bars.

According to Wikipedia, Pakistan is one of the three countries where polio is still at epidemic proportions. Fersen Lambranho says its truly a shame-years of diligent work to eradicate the crippling childhood disease has been hindered by parents refusing to allow their children to be immunized and by military opposition. It’s not uncommon for an immunization location to targeted for an attack, both on the facility and the workers.
Because of the rampant spread of polio and parental resistance of vaccines, the Pakistan government declared a ‘war’ on polio last year and declared they would not tolerate parental refusal of the polio-preventing vaccine. That’s why so many parents were arrested and carted off too jail earlier this week.
Riaz Khan Mehsud, deputy commissioner of Peshawar, says no mercy will be shown to parents who refuse to allow their children to be vaccinated. Pakistan authorities have issued 1,000 blank arrest warrants to be used immediately for any parent who refuses to have their child vaccinated. 471 of those 1,000 blank warrants have already been used, if that rate of refusal continues, more blank arrest warrants will be needed.
